Dog Training Programs We Offer in Westchester County, NY
If you are a new puppy owner, then the team here at Wolfen1 is just the team for you. We fully recognize the importance of proper training as well as grooming your dog to fit right in with your home and family. We encourage training early on, since puppies have natural and innate abilities to follow directions and instructions. This early training helps design and create your puppy’s personal behavior patterns.
Puppy training skillsets we follow:
- Obedience training
- Name recognition
- Introduction to leashes, collars and road safety
Our puppy training services offered in Westchester County can help you start off on the right foot with your new companion.
Basic Dog Obedience Training
The first training program, we recommend for your dog is that of basic dog obedience training. This program focuses on basic introductory training skills which ultimately help to stimulate your dog both mentally and physically. This program must be completed before engaging in our advanced training program.
Basic Commands include:
- Sit down
Our basic introductory training program is revised to suit the needs of new puppies, so no need to worry if you are a new puppy owner. Our revised introductory training program is designed to meet the mental and physical needs of very young puppies of all sizes and breeds.
Advanced Dog Obedience Training
After completing the basic obedience training, your dog can then move on to the advanced obedience training program which is designed to teach your dog to ignore surrounding distractions and to stay focused on the words and actions of their owner. This advanced program teaches your dog a greater sense of respect for their owner.
- Back Up
The advanced program includes much higher levels of commands that teach your dog to be more responsive and to remain attentive to their owners despite surrounding distractions.
If your dog possesses any types of bad behavior, whether from neglect or a simple resistance to training, then the skilled trainers here at Wolfen1 serving Westchester County are prepared to offer a variety of specialized training techniques that help to reverse this mindset. The training focuses on teaching your dog to be more responsive to commands, and helps to improve bad behavior patterns.
This ‘bad behavior’ training technique is effective regardless of the source of your dog’s behavior issues. Whether it stems from not having proper exercise, lacking social skills, fear, or simple lack of proper discipline, we have got you covered. Here at Wolfen1 we believe that no matter the source of the problem, we have the solution!
Some behavioral signs that can be changed:
- Seperation Anxiety
If your dog lacks discipline, then greater attention is required to achieve effective training results. Reaching out to our expert team of trainers is a sure-fire way of tackling the problem. Our unique one-on-one training programs introduce good behaviors to your dog and help to redefine behavior patterns.
Wolfen Services Westchester County and offers specialized training for therapy dogs. Typically used in nursing homes, hospitals, schools and/or retirement homes, therapy dogs possess certain personality traits including that of a good temperament and an easy personality. The training we provide for therapy dogs is suited for dogs of all sizes, ages and breeds.
A therapy dog must possess specific character traits that include being gentle, kind, friendly, calm in varied environments, and comfortable being in the presence of new people. Dogs who do not present these traits, but rather tend to be insecure and unable to maintain a calm and still presence would not be suited for therapy dog training.
To become a therapy dog, your dog must:
- Complete basic and advanced obedience training
- Enjoy meeting new people
- Follow basic obedience commands like sit, come or leave it
- Remain calm and still during visits
A common misconception is that therapy and service dogs are one in the same. They are not. Therapy dogs are not bound to or assist one individual always. Therapy dogs require proper social skills, good health, and be comfortable with being in constant contact with new people.
Off Leash Dog Training
If you are adventurous and take a great deal of pleasure in such outdoor activities as hiking and running with your dog, then off leash training is a must for both you and your dog. In order to participate in off-leash training, however, your dog must first successfully complete both the basic and advanced training programs and be responsive to advanced commands.
The off-leash training program we offer in Westchester County provides dog owners with the tools they need to achieve and maintain greater control of their companions. This program provides know-how and security needed by owners and dogs alike, should they ever get separated during their outdoor adventures.
For the new puppy owner who hasn’t the time nor the patience to train their new ‘best friend,’ the team here at Wolfen1 stands ready to serve. Our friendly, professional trainers are equipped to get the job done for you, and they will take the necessary steps to prepare your puppy for their new family and home life.
We have a variety of training programs to choose from, including our specialized 6-week training program that requires your dog to stay at the Mine Hill Kennel in New Milford. At the Mine Hill Kennel, trainers work around the clock to train your dog and instill good behavior patterns, over a 6-week period of time. Owners are incorporated into the training protocol at week 5.
Programs we follow:
- Attention Getters
- Sit Methods
- Down Methods
- Heel & Come
The modification training and advanced obedience training provided to your dog at the Mine Hill Kennel helps to reinforce good behavior and trains your dog to look only to you, their personal owner, for guidance. Owners must take part in the program at week 5 to ensure an easy transition for your dog from trainer to owner and to help encourage your dog to only rely upon you rather than rely on their trainers.
