Dog Training Programs We Offer In Litchfield County

It can be exciting to have a new puppy. A fluffy ball of energy will add joy to anybody’s life. Have fun! Enjoy your time but also always remember to start training early. If you wait too long, then your puppy may learn improper behavior. You want them to start learning from you as soon as possible!

Puppy training skillsets we follow:

  • Obedience training
  • Name recognition
  • Introduction to leashes, collars and road safety

Our puppy training services in Litchfield County can help you start off on the right root with your new companion.

Basic Dog Obedience Training

This program will aim to stimulate your pet both physically and mentally. We’ll tire them out and make sure that they’ll sleep like a log that night! Furthermore, by teaching them basic commands, we can begin to prepare them to learn more advanced ones.

Basic Commands:

  • Sit down
  • Come
  • Shake
  • Stay

While the program is designed for mature dogs, that doesn’t mean that your dog can’t participate with us. We offer helpful classes for our Litchfield County clients that need assistance with training.

Advanced Dog Obedience Training

This class will teach your dog to ignore distractions and focus on its owner. That way, you don’t have to fight for its attention. It also will expand on the basic training level and give your dog more respect for you.

Advanced Commands:

  • Stop
  • Back Up
  • Give
  • Speak

But maybe your dog already has some behavior issues. In that case, we can still help you. Our expert behavior modification classes for our Litchfield County clients are designed to help you and your dog reconnect.

There could be many reasons why your dog is acting out. Common causes of bad behavior include lack of exercise, socialization, or correct discipline.

Some behavioral signs that can be changed:

  • Agression
  • Fearfulness
  • Guarding
  • Seperation Anxiety

When you call a trainer at Wolfen1 to help your dog, you will already be on the right track. You’ll be taking control of the situation and be ready to start fixing it. We’ll work with you every step of the way so that your dog learns what behaviors are okay and which are not.

Theoretically, every dog should have the potential to be a certified therapy dog. Temperament and personality, however, play a very large role. Call us to today to see if your dog could provide much-needed companionship for those at nursing homes, hospitals, or schools.

Dogs that have behavior problems or are unable to sit still are unlikely to be certified. A therapy dog must be friendly, gentle, and sociable. It also must be comfortable in new environments and meeting new people.

To become a therapy dog, your dog must:

  • Complete basic and advanced obedience training
  • Enjoy meeting new people
  • Follow basic obedience commands like sit, come or leave it
  • Remain calm and still during visits

It is also important to remember that therapy dogs are not service dogs. Service dogs stay with one owner and assist them individually. Therapy dogs, however, are in constant contact with new people. They also must have a good level of social skills, health, and comfort with new places.

Dog off leash training

Off Leash Dog Training

Are you an adventurous dog owner? Do you like to hike, fish, or run? If so, then off leash training may be extremely beneficial to you. And luckily, we offer many of these training sessions in our Litchfield location.

Please note that off leash training should only be considered once your dog has mastered more basic and advanced training. In order to successfully complete the course, your dog must already be familiar with responding to high-degree orders.

When your dog learns to respond to off-leash training, you are at much more freedom to do what you need. You’ll be able to have control over your pet in even dangerous or distracting situations. You’ll have peace of mind, a sense of confidence, and a strengthened relationship with your animal.

Everybody wants a perfectly behaved dog, but not everybody has the time for a weekly class. School, family, and other life commitments can occasionally get in the way. Additionally, you may have some trainers who stray away from dogs with behavior issues. At Wolfen1, however, you needn’t worry about either situation!

One of our most popular programs is a six week training program at the Mine Hill Kennel in New Milford. When your dog is here, you can relax while we extensively train them.  Your dog will also be personally attended to, fed, and properly socialized.

 Programs we follow:

  • Attention Getters
  • Sit Methods
  • Down Methods
  • Heel & Come
  • Climb
  • Place

Under our guidance, dogs will be put through intensive behavior modification as well as obedience training. They’ll learn to look to their owner for guidance and accept commands. The owner will join at around week five and the dog will adjust from trainer to owner. Owners will also learn the program and make their own adjustments to their techniques.
