Dog Training Programs We Offer In Hamden, CT

Training a dog earlier rather than later is essential in order to avoid common mistakes that first time puppy owners constantly make. We recommend introducing basic commands to your animal early on in order to see if your dog has a natural, innate quality of following a leader or not.

Puppy training skill sets we follow:

  • Obedience training
  • Name recognition
  • Introduction to leashes, collars and road safety

To start you and your new companion right, in Hamden, our puppy training services are available.

Basic Dog Obedience Training

A positive reward method is the basis for our program; this method allows you to give your dog basic, introductory training skills that can help stimulate your dog both mentally and physically. Following this training, advanced learning will come more easily for your dog.

Basic Commands:

  • Sit down
  • Come
  • Shake
  • Stay

Remember that this training is intended for mature and developed dogs, however, do not let this fact discourage you at all if you only have a puppy. For you, we offer puppy training services for all of our Hamden residents. First and foremost with our specific services, we will cater to your puppy’s needs.

Advanced Dog Obedience Training

There are a lot of different distractions possible for your dog, such as; people, cars and animals. Our advanced obedience program can help them acquire the skill set to ignore these in order to help make sure that your dog will focus only on you. More respect will be gained through this training and will develop beyond what they learn in the basic training level.

Advanced Commands:

  • Stop
  • Back Up
  • Give
  • Speak

We will help expand upon your Hamden dog’s basic level of dog obedience training. In order to ignore distractions like; people, animals and cars, by becoming more advanced through learning more commands, they will begin to learn how to ignore distractions. From here on, they will focus only on their owner.

An issue that can arise from neglect or resistance to training, is bad behavior; it can be easily learned, but our proper training programs for our Hamden residents can help prevent or stop this mindset from occurring.

Proper exercise, lack of social skills, fear or if your dog does not have the correct discipline can all result in your dog’s bad behavior training.

The behavioral signs that can be corrected are:

  • Agression
  • Fearfulness
  • Guarding
  • Seperation Anxiety

If you are a Hamden resident, then our expert training is offered to you, and by acquiring it you will be able to take control of the situation once more. The results will be your dog learning which actions are acceptable and which are not through our one-on-one training sessions with our trainer at Wolfen1.

Is your current residence in the Hamden area at a: nursing home, hospital, school or retirement home? If so, therapy dogs may be available to you for possible companionship. For certified therapy dogs, temperament and personality are a big factor. Breed, age or size do not come into play at all.

If the dog has behavior problems (or cannot sit still and remain calm) then it is not possible for them to become therapy dogs. Good therapy dogs often are: friendly, gentle, comfortable around new people and always are able to remain calm in a multitude of different environments.

If you are looking for your dog to become a therapy dog then they have to:

  • Complete basic and advanced obedience training
  • Enjoy meeting new people
  • Follow basic obedience commands like sit, come or leave it
  • Remain calm and still during visits

It is important to note that therapy and service dogs are not the same. Therapy dogs, in comparison to service dogs, are not bound to or assist one individual always. Qualities of therapy dogs include: proper skills, good health and comfort with being in constant contact of new individuals.

Dog off leash training

Off Leash Dog Training

Dogs that are often in adventure situations (hiking, running or spending time on large properties) can benefit from off leash training.

After basic and advanced obedience training programs are complete, then off leash training can be considered for your dog. We want to make sure that your dog understands responding to commands at a high degree so they can be properly taught how to walk off leash.

In Hamden, we understand that distractions are everywhere, so it is important for you to benefit from this program in the sense of obtaining more control over your companion at points in time where distractions are everywhere. From off leash training sessions you will be assured that whenever you are separated from your dog, they will remain more calm and obedient as a result.

If you do not have a lot of free time and are a dog owner, then our training can offer a solution to such stressful situations of finding the time to train your new puppy or dog. Our dog trainers at Wolfen1 will not stray away from behavior problems like others do.

Our minimum 6 weeks training program located at New Milford’s Mile Hill Kennel is here for your dog. They are able to undergo extensive dog training through the trusted hands of the owners at Mile Hill Kennel; where it be basic or advanced obedience training.

 Programs we follow:

  • Attention Getters
  • Sit Methods
  • Down Methods
  • Heel & Come
  • Climb
  • Place

Dogs who are put through behavior modification training will also have obedience training. This training will allow a reinforcement of good behavior by looking to owners for guidance. Around week 5 the training program will open up for owners to get involved so the switch from trainer to owner is easier to come by. We want to help establish that connection of owner as a leader, so this is the time that the owner will learn the program in order to adapt to our training style.
