Dog Training Programs We Offer In Cheshire, CT

If you have recently gained a new member to your family, then it is important for you to note that the most important part of raising a dog is beginning to train them early! A common mistake between new puppy owners is waiting far too long to start introducing basic commands to their animals. This is important because it can help to see if your dog has a natural, innate qualities to follow a leader or not.

Puppy training skillsets we follow:

  • Obedience training
  • Name recognition
  • Introduction to leashes, collars and road safety

In Cheshire, our puppy training services will help you to start off on the right foot with your new companion.

Basic Dog Obedience Training

In order to give your dog basic, introductory training skills, this program is based upon a positive reward method. This will help to stimulate your dog both mentally and physically. And, overall, by providing this training your dog will be able to be more prepared for advanced learning.

Basic Commands:

  • Sit down
  • Come
  • Shake
  • Stay

It is important to note, however, that this training is intended for more mature and developed dogs. However, do not let this discourage you if you currently have a puppy; we still do offer puppy training services to all our Cheshire residents. This will cater more towards the specific needs of a puppy, instead.

Advanced Dog Obedience Training

In order to allow your dog to acquire the skill set of ignoring the distractions of people, cars and animals; our advanced obedience training helps to make sure that your dog will focus solely on their owner. Therefore, this training will grow on the basic training level and will help your dog to gain more respect for its owner.

Advanced Commands:

  • Stop
  • Back Up
  • Give
  • Speak

The basic level of dog obedience training is able to be expanded upon through this training program by giving your dog advanced training in Cheshire. Through this they will be able to learn more commands while also learning to ignore distractions such as people, cars and animals in exchange for focusing solely on their owner.

Bad behavior for dogs can be easily learned through neglect or resistance to training. Through the proper training program for all of our Cheshire residents, you can help reverse this kind of mindset.

All kinds of factors, such as your dog not having the proper exercise, lacks socialization, fear or doesn’t have the correct discipline can all be the cause of your dog’s bad behavior training.

Some destructive behavioral issues that can be changed:

  • Agression
  • Fearfulness
  • Guarding
  • Seperation Anxiety

You’re off to a good start already by taking control of the situation fully and seeking expert training offered to Cheshire residents. Our trainer at Wolfen1 will be able to teach your dog which actions are accepted and which are not by engaging in one-on-one training sessions.

For those at nursing homes, hospitals, schools, or retirement homes therapy dogs provide much-needed companionship. A certified therapy dog can be essentially any breed, age or size dog; however, their temperament and personality are huge factors that will come into play.

If a dog has a behavior problem or the inability to sit still and remain calm, it is less likely for them to be able to become a therapy dog. The essentials of a therapy dog are, they must be: friendly, gentle, comfortable around new people and remain calm in multiple environments. If you are interested in your dog becoming a therapy dog then they must

  • Complete basic and advanced obedience training
  • Enjoy meeting new people.
  • Follow basic obedience commands like sit, come or leave it
  • Remain calm and still during visits

Oftenly, therapy dogs are confused with service dogs. However, a therapy dog does not stay with one individual owner always and assist them directly. It is important for therapy dogs to have proper social skills, good health and be comfortable with being touched as they will be constantly in contact with new people.

Dog off leash training

Off Leash Dog Training

Off leash training can be beneficial for dog owners who find themselves in more adventurous situations like hiking, running or simply spending time on large properties.

After basic and advanced obedience training programs have been successfully completed should off leash training be considered. It is crucial for your dog to be familiar with responding to commands at a high degree so that they can be properly taught to walk off leash.

You will have more control of your companion in distracting situations within Cheshire by engaging your dog in off leash training sessions. When your dog remains calm and obedient, it will give you a piece of mind during any unforeseen situations where you happen to be separated from your dog.

In Kennel, Board and Train Program for Dogs

For some dog owners it is very hard to find time to train your new puppy or dog. Some dog trainers will tend to stray away from behavior problems as well, but that is not the case at Wolfen1.

We will extensively train your dog at our minimum 6 weeks training program held in New Milford at the Mile Hill Kennel. Your dog is in good hands by the owners of Mine Hill Kennel whether they need help with basic or advanced obedience training.

 Programs we follow:

  • Attention Getters
  • Sit Methods
  • Down Methods
  • Heel & Come
  • Climb
  • Place

It is important to note that for the dogs who are put through behavior modification training, they will also undergo obedience training where we will be able to reinforce good behavior and look to their owner for guidance. Owners will be integrated into the training program around week 5 in order to help make the adjustment from trainer to owner easier. This will help establish yourself as the leader by learning the program and making key adjustments to adapt to our training style.
